About

In 1936 a group in China, Maine began collecting books for the purpose of establishing a public lending library. When Mrs. Albert Church Brown learned of the endeavor she bequeathed the c. 1827 family home, located at 37 Main Street in China Village, to the China Library Association to house their library in memory of her late husband, providing an endowment for the building’s restoration. Since then, the Albert Church Brown Memorial Library, also called the China Library, has been a center for the literary needs of the town of China, as well as a community gathering place to foster the culture and connections of its residents and the library’s patrons.
